Regular readers of this blog will be well aware that decentralising and localising our food production and supply systems is something we're very passionate about. These are the posts we've written about this so far this year:
Digging in at the plot 5.4.25
Digging in at the plot - March 5.3.25
Digging in at the plot - February 20.2.25
Planting vegetables (and fruit) and building communities 10.2.25
Digging in at the start of the year:) 17.1.25
As we've written a good few times already, whoever controls the food supply, controls the population. In these increasingly dystopian times, doing what we can to bring food production and distribution down the regional and community level is a step towards increasing our autonomy at the grassroots. This is why we lend our support to any local and regional projects that aim to decentralise and localise our food production and supply systems.
We also maintain a directory of grassroots projects: The Directory. We’ve now set this up as a stand alone page on Wordpress. There are two main reasons why we’ve done this. Firstly, it’s our long term ambition to get more people on board to help out with adding to, updating and maintaining The Directory. Regarding access to the administration area, this will only work if it’s hosted separately from this blog. Secondly, once we’ve finished distributing the latest edition of the At the grassroots paper, we intend to incorporate this At the grassroots project into our sister blog Stirrings from below. This will happen towards the end of this year or very early in 2026. Obviously, with a merger such as this, The Directory has to be a separate project. The thinking behind all of this is explained more fully in this post: Long term plans… 2.6.25.
The listings below are an attempt to build a database of what's going on across the Avon region when it comes to community food growing. It's not a comprehensive list though, it's a work in progress. So, if you run a community garden or food project in the region and you're not mentioned, please feel free to send the details of what you do to us and it will be added to the directory.
